It’s just my allergies

It’s just my allergies

I’ve been there,  you’ve been there,  your wife’s best friend’s husband who has muscles protruding  out of his muscles has been there. That time that something  just got you, something happened and tears began to well up and flow.  Your mind starts to race with thoughts of ” What am I going to say. Am I going to tell everyone that I cried?   Or am I  going to tell them that I got emotional or am I going to play the  ”it’s just my allergies” card. I don’t know about you but,  when my seasonal allergies are  acting up it doesn’t look the same as the emotional allergies,  so why lie about it? The truth is that finding Christ helps find our emotions.  It brings an inner peace into your life knowing that what the world thinks doesn’t matter, what the world sees doesn’t matter! What matters is that Christ is seen through you! Did Christ never show emotion?  Is it wrong as a man to do the same?  So it wasn’t your allergies,  it wasn’t Earl’s third degree burn wings that made your eyes well up like that.

Last night I found myself crying at church as we had back to school night for our kids. It’s a night where we gather around and pray for each kid one one by one.  As it  got started and it went kid after kid after kid I found myself praying peace over all of the kids and then they begin praying for Grady they begin speaking beautiful wonderful thoughts over him! Bring wisdom, strength,  safety and friendships and a mind for Christ over him and I began to tear up and it became uncontrollable I was sobbing as I watched 50 kids and multiple adults pray for my gift,  for my child and then they finished and they moved on as did I. Gaining  my composure along came Bridger  and then came “my allergies”  again. I was overcome with emotion due to the simple fact that I know that he is getting an education in Christ he is getting the same exact prayers that they gave Grady.  They spoke compassion over him, wisdom and peace and leadership. As I looked over Bridger head faced the other direction. I just found myself praising God that he has such a tight group of friends that I had nothing else to do but weep tears of joy as my kids were given something that can never be taken from them.

 vs .

You see as I have gotten older I have began to care less and less about what the world around me says and more and more about the One who is IN me believes and knows!  My family has a relationship with Christ and that can never be taken from them!!  So the next time your “allergies” act up step back and ask yourself, do I need a claritin or is that just Christ showing through me?

What do your Facebook pictures say?

What do your Face book pictures say?

What if our facebook pictures told a story about our lives?  What if pictures had a voice?  What would they say?  Would you be happy about it?  Would you be proud of it?  It was funny, as I was loading these pictures the one about loving Jesus stayed right on the top of the page, I wasn’t necessarily trying to get that picture to stay there, but it was!!  It’s true!  I do Love Jesus, but do I show it, do I show it all the time?  Do I make it a priority?  Probably not, but He does find a way to stay at the top, to keep me in line, to keep me striving to be the best Christ follower, the best Husband and the best father I can be!!!  So what do my facebook pictures say?  I don’t know, but I am proud of it, and I will stand on a rock and tell you about it!!  Life is amazing, live it as if it goes on for eternity, live it as if you want it to be great when our time here on earth is over!!

# YOLO…….. or is it YODO

So I finally feel like I have like I might be losing touch with my youthful side!!  At Wednesday night church Pastor Reeses sermon was appropriately called YOLO to which I had no clue what that meant!  These days there are many of these things…… What are they called LOL, Rotfl, lmbo, and the aforementioned YOLO which stands for You only live once, but the truth of the matter is YODO…… You only Die Once!! We all as Humans, believers or not will live twice!  The death rate in the world is 100%!  From the day we are born we creep steadily closer to our final days!  Our first day is celebrated by grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles and of course dear old mom and dad!  The last day is celebrated by all that you had an impact on, good and maybe even the bad!! Who knows?!?, but to say YOLO is a travesty to yourself and all of those around you not to mention the fact that is a bold face lie!!  That infamous day that will be your last will not be your last, it’s just your last on earth!  I can’t really say or give a time frame from the time you take that last breath until you stand face to face with Jesus, but what I can say with out a doubt is that the last breath you take  won’t be the last breath you take!  So before you take a second and use that little 4 letter abreviation ( what are they called ) think twice before you tweet out YOLO because it might be your last night on earth and you should have live like it was a YODO night instead!!

UNLEASH by Perry Noble

Small excerpt out of the book, a little teaser if you will……..

Jesus has made it possible for us to live an unleashed life. Whether we realize it or not, Jesus made the first move. Now He is

waiting on us to make the next one. Just as I’d been oblivious to the Mustang’s power for most of the day, most of us don’t even consider living a life that is unleashed. Instead, we settle for average, routine, predict-

Jesus made the first move. Now He is waiting on us to make the next one.

able. But the Bible describes the life of a Christ follower as any- thing but boring. God doesn’t want us to live mediocre, mundane lives.

If that’s the case, then why do so many of us wake up in the morning fully expecting nothing more than “normal”?

I’m here to tell you that it’s completely possible to live a life beyond normal.

It’s completely possible to live with purpose rather than stumble through our days trying to figure out, Why in the world am I here? It’s completely possible to live a life marked by freedom and

passion rather than one filled with regret and shame.
It’s completely possible to live in right relationships with other

people rather than let unforgiveness hold us hostage.

Are you a Wooden Spoon?

As Christians I don’t believe that we are held to a different standard by God, we simply choose to live a different way in our day to day lives!  Part of the thing I had to learn was that the sinful nature that we live in is an easy life to stay in.  To walk the Christian walk and to stand tall on your rock of faith will come with stares of ridicule or simple disbelief! You see to live a life of ease and immorality is kind of like cooking with a wooden spon!  I love to cook and I love using my same wooden spoon for my spaghetti sauce every time because it soaks all the seasons and herbs and to taste that oregano and rich cilantro and fresh sage as you perfect that scrumptious delectable sauce worth every second it takes to make it, but in life I’d rather be one of my wife’s rubber spoonula things so that all the things of the world can not soak into my pores and eventually be part of me like all those wonderful herbs that are infused into my wooden cooking spoon!  So I ask which utensil are you or maybe a better question would be which do you want to be because it’s never to late to make the switch!!!

SUMMER SNACKS AND VEGAN FACTS #128 07/18/12

No matter what body of water you’re heading to this summer—beach, lake, your local pool—or even some neighborhood kid’s Slip ‘N Slide®—you’ll be glad you packed these 23 delicious, nutritious snacks, each of which is 150 calories or less. If you’re looking to get a balance of protein, fat, and carbs for each snack, halve the portions and combine nuts, cheese, or lean meats with the fruit-forward treats!

Summer Snack

Not only will these keep you from craving that double scoop of mint chocolate chip, they’ll help keep your hunger at bay while you’re in and out of the water or soaking up the sun. Just don’t forget the sunscreen.

Got a cooler? If you’re packing an ice chest, try these refreshing treats that will cool you down when it feels like you’re about to melt in the afternoon sun.

  1. Frozen grapes. With a taste just like sorbet, frozen grapes are the snack that got me through the dog days of many a New York City summer. Just rinse some grapes, toss them in a plastic bag, and throw them in the freezer. Hours later, you’ll have a chilly, low-calorie snack. 1 cup of grapes equals 62 calories.
  2. Jicama Salad Jicama salad. Chop 1 cup of jicama and add a splash of lemon juice and a pinch of salt for a tangy, crunchy salad. Those 50 calories will give you a blast of energy to get back in the pool for one more round of Marco Polo.
  3. Mediterranean salad. Go Greek and dice 1 medium tomato, half a red onion, and 1 cucumber. Top with 1 ounce of low-fat feta cheese and a pinch of salt. Trust me, it tastes way more decadent than its 146 calories.
  4. Dates and prosciutto. If you want something with more of a savory flavor, wrap 1 piece of prosciutto around a date for a bite that combines sweet and salty. Your taste buds will love you for it. Each one is approximately 50 calories.
  5. Watermelon twist. Even on its own, watermelon is such a great summer food. It’s low in calories, full of water, and high in vitamin C. To add some protein and fat, top 1 cup of watermelon with 1 ounce of crumbled feta for a treat less than 100 calories.
  6. Caprese. The Italians know what they’re doing when it comes to eating healthy. Moderation, moderation, moderation! For this savory snack with a little bite, top 1 ounce of fresh mozzarella cheese with 1 cup of cherry tomatoes and 1 tablespoon of your favorite balsamic vinegar.
  7. Shakeology®. Why not bring the Healthiest Meal of the Day® to the beach? Just mix half of a serving of your favorite flavor with water for a nutrient-packed snack that’s 70 to 85 calories.
  8. Stuffed tomatoes. Tomatoes are packed with cancer-busting antioxidants, and when they’re stuffed with this vegetarian-friendly recipe for olive and quinoa salad from Cookie + Kate, they’ve also got the protein and fat to keep you going all day. The easy-to-make snack is just 112 calories a serving.
  9. Berries. Feeling the heat? Munch on 1 cup of strawberries, raspberries, or blueberries for an antioxidant-friendly, refreshing treat that’s under 100 calories. Simple and delicious!
  10. Tabouleh Tabouleh. This classic Middle Eastern salad is made from bulgur, tomato, parsley, lemon juice, mint, garlic, and salt. Make your own or pick up some from your local deli. A cup is approximately 150 calories or less.
  11. Gazpacho. This tomato-based soup is like a soup version of V8®, only without the preservatives and sodium. It’s jam-packed with tons of vegetables and will help you feel hydrated even on the hottest of days. Follow this recipe and you’ll have a low-cal soup in less than 30 minutes.
  12. Pickles. Want a practically calorie-free snack? Munch on some pickles! They’re sweet and salty, and their delectable crunch makes them a fun snack to eat while you’re sitting on the shore or lounging poolside.
  13. Gelatin dessert. For a sweet treat, enjoy the jiggle of a gelatin-based dessert like JELL-O® without adding extra jiggle to you at 80 calories or less. Though many products on the market have artificial ingredients, you can find better versions at natural food stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s®.

Going cooler-free? These snacks will keep your hunger at bay for when you’re not planning to bring a cooler.

  1. Cinnamon apple. Sprinkle an apple with cinnamon for a treat that tastes like apple pie, but with only 70 tiny calories and no added sugar.
  2. Summer Fruit Juicy fruit. Try 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce with a hint of cinnamon for a 100-calorie snack. Just make sure to read the ingredients, as many applesauce brands contain added sugar or high-fructose corn syrup.
  3. Nuts. A handful of 40 pistachios or 20 raw almonds will provide you with the protein and fat your body needs to fuel your fun in the sun.
  4. Olives. Get some healthy fats into your system by munching on 16 olives! Choose pitted ones to leave yourself with less to clean up.
  5. Peanut, almond, or cashew butter. For a super quick snack, grab a spoonful of nut butter. This protein-rich treat will give you energy. Even the all-natural versions have that great blend of salty and sweet for just 95 calories.
  6. Roasted chickpeas. Mix together olive oil, spices, and chickpeas on a baking sheet, roast them in your oven for 35 minutes, and you’ll have a guilt-free snack high in fiber and antioxidants that’s approximately 150 calories per quarter-cup serving.
  7. Tempeh. I first discovered this weird-looking food at the farmer’s market when I bought it on a whim. It’s made from fermented soy, so it’s high in protein, probiotics, and calcium. It’s less processed than tofu and has a nutty flavor that makes it yummy on its own. A half-cup is approximately 150 calories.
  8. Bell pepper with balsamic vinegar. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar over sliced bell peppers for a treat high in vitamin C and low in calories. 1 marinated bell pepper is equal to about 40 calories.
  9. Avocado toast. Mash 1/4 of an avocado onto 1 slice of whole wheat or sprouted-grain toast and sprinkle it with Espellete pepper for a 120-calorie omega-3 friendly snack. Here’s Team Beachbody’s recipe for this snack.
  10. Water Water. Don’t forget about hydration! If you’re going to be in the sun, it’s critical to make sure you’re replenishing your water supply whether or not you’re splashing around in the waves. Unless you want a midday headache, that is. Drink iced cold water, iced tea, coconut water, or sparkling water to rehydrate.

which boat

boat1.jpg

If I said to you both of these boats would make it to your destination which would you choose? Let’s be honest our gut says to take the smooth easy ride on the calm sea, but man that sure would be a lot of work when the big boat seems to have a rough ride

ahead, but you already know that it’s going to make it! These two boats have to have one thing in common, a captain! Who is the captain on your ship because that my friend, that is what will get you to your destination! In Matthew Chapter 14 it says Then He directed the disciples to get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent away the crowds.23  And after He had dismissed the multitudes, He went up into the hills by Himself to pray. When it was evening, He was still there alone.24  But the boat was by this time out on the sea, many furlongs [a furlong is one-eighth of a mile] distant from the land, beaten and tossed by the waves, for the wind was against them.25  And in the fourth watch [between 3:00–6:00 a.m.] of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.26  And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified and said, It is a ghost! And they screamed out with fright.27  But instantly He spoke to them, saying, Take courage! I AM! Stop being afraid! 28  And Peter answered Him, Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.29  He said, Come! So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water, and he came toward Jesus.30  But when he perceived and felt the strong wind, he was frightened, and as he began to sink, he cried out, Lord, save me [from death]!31  Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and caught and held him, saying to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt?

You see we as Christians fail every day, it’s simply in our nature to fail, but that is why God is such an awesome God because even when I fail just as Peter did Jesus is right there to step in and say “ why did you doubt” You see the water was calm Jesus told Peter “it is I” yet as the wind picked up Peter crumbled, I’d like to say that if I saw Jesus face to face there is absolutely nothing that could stand in my way, that I would be strong enough to withstand the trials that come my way to look fear in the face and say I am not scared, and by the Grace of God and only the grace of God is that possible! We all will come against trials in our lives that will try and punch us like a Mike Tyson upper cut, but with Christ in our corner there is no white flag to be thrown, there is no blood to be shed and yes even I can stand after taking the dubious upper cut that took down so many great fighters when Christ is in my corner! I don’t think it’s coincidence at all that Evander Holyfield the Boxer that wore his Faith proudly across his Championship belt was know as the toughest boxer around! He knew that God did not give him a spirit of fear. He knew that He was the best and that not only was his trainer in his corner So to was Christ!!!!!
Just like In Matthew Chapter 8 where Jesus slept…….
And suddenly, behold, there arose a violent storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered up by the waves; but He was sleeping.25  And they went and awakened Him, saying, Lord, rescue and preserve us! We are perishing!26  And He said to them, Why are you timid and afraid, O you of little faith? Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great and wonderful calm (a perfect peaceableness).27  And the men were stunned with bewildered wonder and marveled, saying, What kind of Man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him!

If you will remember in the beginning I asked you which boat you would ride in? I hope and pray that your answer will be prefaced with a little wondering of who the captain is because it doesn’t matter the size of the boat or the depth of the wave if your ship is being led by the right captain then it really doesn’t matter the circumstance because your destination is already planned out! My Captain is getting me here!!!
Is Yours?
